These consultants provide recommendations for improvement of the firms’ overall operations to achieve higher productivity. Among the priority focus of intervention are as follows: plant lay- out, production planning and control, occupational health and safety, plant capacity utilization, work organization and human resource utilization, equipment and machinery utilization, plant and machinery maintenance, process operations, materials management, product design and packaging, and quality assurance systems, among many others. Consultants are required to provide both short- and long-term recommendations to the beneficiary firms. Beneficiary firms are expected to implement short-term recommendations within the duration of the consultancy engagement. Short-term recommendations refer to areas which can be implemented by the firm within a period of 1-3 months depending on the availability of resources and the firm’s financial capacity.
